Why are we creating an EAGL for Mediterranean MPAs?
This initiative is part of the Interreg Euro-MED GreenList4MMPAs project, which aims to strengthen the conservation of the Mediterranean’s rich marine life by exploring how the IUCN Green List for Protected and Conserved Areas (Green List) can be applied to Marine Protected Areas in the Mediterranean.
The IUCN Green List aims to recognise and promote high standards of equitable and effective protected area management that achieves conservation outcomes through globally consistent criteria. The EAGL is at the heart of Green List evaluating areas that apply to be added to the Green List.
What are the benefits of being part of the EAGL?
Benefits of being an EAGL member include advancing Protected Area management effectiveness and fair governance, and an opportunity to become part of the global Green List community of practitioners and stakeholders in more than 30 countries. EAGL members are expected to work on a voluntary basis, in a personal capacity and to have specific competence on Marine Protected areas and knowledge relevant to the Mediterranean marine environment.
We encourage you to review and share the call for expressions and, if you hold the expertise required, to apply.
