The Green List for Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Project (GreenList4MMPAs), co-funded by Interreg Euro-MED, is organising two webinars to introduce the IUCN Green List for Protected and Conserved Areas and its potential to strengthen the effective management of MPAs in the Mediterranean.
During the webinars, you will have a chance to ask questions on the Green List, discuss its implementation in MPAs, and discover other opportunities to collaborate with the GreenList4MMPAs project.

What is the IUCN Green List?
The IUCN Green List is a global initiative that promotes effective nature conservation through a Sustainability Standard. It ensures that protected areas achieve fair and lasting conservation outcomes. The Green List Standard is available in multiple languages:
Why Participate?
- Contribute to a stronger conservation community – Join a network of professionals working to enhance the applicability of the IUCN Green List in Mediterranean MPAs.
- Help improve conservation standards – Your insights shared during the webinar will directly inform the GreebList4MMPAs project and contribute to more effective and sustainable MPA management.
- Discover collaboration opportunities – Participants will be introduced to opportunities for contributing to the project, including taking part in the GreenList4MMPAs survey. Active respondents to the survey may be invited to National Focus Group meetings (tentatively scheduled for October) or have their MPA considered as a case study or project partner in future initiatives.

The survey consists of Green List standard indicators followed by four key questions on:
- Clarity – Are the indicators understandable? Any suggestions for improvement?
- Data Availability – Does your MPA have the necessary data to support the indicators?
- Applicability to MPAs – How practical is it to apply the indicator to the Mediterranean marine context?
- Affordability – What are the resource and staff effort costs?
