Experts and managers of Italian Marine Protected Areas meet to discuss marine conservation

On October 1–2, the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Palermo, hosted an important national focus group within the framework of the GreenList4MMPAs project.
The event brought together representatives from seven Italian Marine Protected Areas, two managing bodies of Natura 2000 sites, two experts from the Mediterranean Green List Group, and other specialists in marine conservation.

The meeting focused on reviewing the Guidance and Notes of the IUCN Green List Standard, with the goal of improving their clarity and applicability to the Mediterranean marine context.

The direct exchange with MPA managers and other participants represented a crucial opportunity to give voice to those who will be directly involved in implementing the Green List Standard across the Mediterranean region.

Through this participatory process, the GreenList4MMPAs project — led by the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn — takes another step forward in strengthening the protection of the Mediterranean’s natural heritage, to the benefit of both biodiversity and local communities.
